What this policy covers

Canada’s Best Pension Plan Ltd. (“CBPP”, “we”) is a retirement plan consulting firm based in Victoria, British Columbia. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It is written to meet our obligations under British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies to our work, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

When you request a Retirement Readiness Snapshot, you give us your name, your title, your organization, your email address, your phone number, and optionally the name of your plan carrier. You then answer eight questions about your group RRSP or DC pension plan.

Those answers describe the plan, not individuals. We ask for employee counts and an average pay figure. We do not ask for, and do not want, the name, birth date, salary, or account balance of any individual plan member.

Our web host records standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

Why we collect it

To prepare and return your Snapshot, to contact you about it, and to answer questions you raise about your plan. If you later engage us, the same information becomes part of our client file. That is the whole of it.

We do not use what you submit to build a marketing list, and we do not send unsolicited email.

Consent

Submitting the form is your consent to our using the information for the purposes above. You may withdraw consent at any time by telling us, subject to any legal or professional record-keeping we are required to maintain. If we ever want to use your information for a new purpose, we will ask first.

We do not sell or share your information

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We do not share it with insurers, recordkeepers, fund managers, or any other firm, and we receive no compensation from any of them.

The only third parties who touch your information are the service providers who run our website, form intake, and email. They act on our instructions, may use the information only to provide the service, and may not use it for their own purposes.

Storage outside Canada

Our form submissions and email are handled by service providers whose servers may be located in the United States. Information stored there may be accessible to foreign courts and law enforcement under the laws of that country. We tell you this so your consent is informed. If you would rather not submit through the website, call us and we will take your answers by phone or on paper.

How long we keep it

If you request a Snapshot and do not become a client, we keep your submission for two years and then delete it. If you become a client, we keep your file for the period our professional obligations require, and delete it after that.

How we protect it

Access is limited to the people at CBPP who need it to do the work. Transmission to this site is encrypted, and files are stored in access-controlled accounts rather than on personal devices.

Seeing and correcting your information

You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy, and ask us to correct anything inaccurate. Write to our Privacy Officer at the address below or call. We will respond within 30 business days, as PIPA requires. There is no charge for a routine request.

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information or your request, tell our Privacy Officer first — most concerns are resolved that way. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, at oipc.bc.ca.
